The Guru
Passing on The Legacy
guru

First trained under the guidance of Prof. B.N. Datta, Panditji became a disciple of Ustad Amir Khan in 1948. He was closely associated with the Ustad for almost two decades. He proudly walked in the footsteps of his gurus by being an exemplary and generous guru himself.

Teaching since 1957, first as Head, Vocal Music Department, Triveni Kala Sangam, and then as Guru, Hindustani Music, Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra (1978-1990), several performing artistes have trained under him. Well-known among them are the late Mahendra Sharma, Baldev Raj Verma, the late Shanti Sharma, Amarjeetji, Shri Brij Bhushan, Dr Chandranath Chatterjee and Rekha Bharadwaj, as well as students from countries such as Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Riyaaz….today it is taken as practice or exercise. The difference is of the spirit. If it is done with a spirit of devotion,
the exercise becomes riyaazat, ibaadat.
